6 CONSIDERATIONS WHEN CHOOSING A TV KIOSK
The TV Kiosk has been around for some time and mainly popularized using small displays. This particular article will concentrate on indoor TV Kiosks for large format displays 40 inch or greater in size.
In general TV kiosks are a rectangular box structure fixed to the ground on one of their shortest sides. The most common way of mounting a TV display within the kiosk is in portrait configuration inside the top half of the box, either as a single screen or twin back to back screens. In general the sizes of screen that can be accommodated range from 40 inch to 75 inch. The box void under the display is used for players, controllers or fan units for ambient cooling. The structure can be bolted down or free standing and have square or round edges on the top two corners. Other custom options are available such as plinth protection from large sit-on brush cleaners.
TV Kiosks provide a solid structure to mount TV screens, which when installed into a public concourse become an attraction for passers-by to acknowledge. The capturing of an audience is important in order to impart information whether it be their location, transport information or advertising.
Most shopping malls, airports or large public areas will have some form of showing you where you are, the destination you are visiting and how to get there. The TV Kiosk provides an ideal platform to present dynamic digital representations of maps that are easy to follow.
Transport arrival and departure information is shown on TV screens in nearly all transport hubs, whether it be bus, train or aircraft. The TV Kiosk is ideal to present this information especially with back to back TV displays.
Shops and shopping malls utilise TV Kiosks for wayfinding as previously mentioned and advertising. When combined with touch interactivity they can be used as an ordering station or product picker. Either dedicated touch screens or interactive touch foil applied to a standard display can be used. Another way to enhance product is to place it behind a transparent TV screen, which UNICOL have developed a kiosk for with shelving within the kiosk fronted by the transparent TV screen.
Whilst the dynamic digital signage content is what people will engage with, the structure of the TV Kiosk can also be used as a corporate promotional tool. This can be a simple colour option, logo placement or complete graphic vinyl wrap.
Here at UNICOL our Special Projects Design department has been engaged in the ongoing development of these units and can produce conceptual and production versions for many varied applications.
